login issue

good evening ,
me and a couple of friends are experiencing login inssues into the forums
1. If i enter the username and password
it gets back to the same page again and asks me 2 fill in my user name and pass
but does not login at all
can some one please help me ?

2.if i upgrade to the .20 version will my problem be solved ??

3.what files am i to move if i need 2 upgrade to .20 ?
i mean im sure i need 2 move certain .tpl files for the forums
i dont want to lose the data on the forums after a fresh install

Most likely is a cookie problem, make sure to clear your cookies and check to see if the cookies setting in then ACP is correct.

yes i kept clearing cookies but it happened over n over again

im sorry but how do i check that ?

When you login into the ACP, go to "General Admin" then go to "Configuration", after your there, scroll down to "Cookie settings", make sure it has your domain name. (*Note: Check if there is a (dot) in front of your domain name)

For example it would look like this:

Cookie domain: .yourdomain.com
Cookie name: phpbb2mysql
Cookie path: /
Cookie secure: Disabled
Session length [ seconds ]: 3600

but my issue is my domain is a subdomain
eg..
www.mafo.carty.com/phpBB2/
so my cookie domain- .mafo.carty.com
cookie name - phpbb2
cookie path - /

are these ok ????
because another phpbb2 is running in d same domain Smile

If its a subdomain, you only enter the domain, not including the subdomain.

So it would be like this. And even if you have multiple forums, just change the cookie name.

First forum

Code:

Cookie domain: .carty.com
Cookie name: forum1
Cookie path: /
Cookie secure: Disabled
Session length [ seconds ]: 3600

Second forum

Code:

Cookie domain: .carty.com
Cookie name: forum2
Cookie path: /
Cookie secure: Disabled
Session length [ seconds ]: 3600
