Is it possible to run PHPBB on one server while using database from MySQL from a different server? I have two leased servers, and one that houses both the forum script (I use PHPBB+ 1.52) and MySQL database seems to have gone mad and gives me memory exhaustion errors whenever a PHP script uses physical memory to write up commands. The SQL is still up and running, so I'm trying to figure out if I could install PHPBB to another server and make it run from there while leeching off of the SQL database on the original server.
I don't want to go through the exporting and importing process because of the possibility that the problem should be solved.
I tried editing the config.php in the base root of PHPBB folder and changed the dbhost name to the a bunch of things I could possibly think of, from my first server's address and such. No joy.
So, is there any way to do this? |

I have never done this before but I think that it is possible. You would need make some changes in your config.php

I tried it, but couldn't figure out exactly what should go in the localhost line.
Any ideas? |

Well, you have to ask your host on that other server to give you the exact address of the mysql URL. |
