phpBB2 Plus 1.53 Public Beta Version

Due to many Requests which i was not able to answer to in the past i have decided to release the current phpBB2 Plus Code as Beta-Version for Public use because many Hosts have changed to PHP5.x and phpBB2 Plus 1.52 will not work there.

Some words about Plus 1.53 Beta. There is no big changes in Functions ! Main Changes have been made to let it work with PHP 5.x, just some Mods like Attachment Mod and Extreme Styles Mod and some more have been updated to the latest versions. Birthday Mod and Last Visit Mod Caching was added to speed up the Portal and Forum Index. Also a lot of Bugs have been fixed but i am sure there are still some or some more left. Also some Bugs with Firefox have been hopefully fixed now. I will open a new Section at phpbb2.de where this version will be supported. A Forum for Bug-Reports and a Discussion Forum will be created so we can track the Bugs and Fix them better. I suggest you should not use it at your production site with first Beta and wait until we can say that it is mostly stable with PHP 4.x and 5.x.

- Applied Changes from phpBB 2.0.11 Code
- Fixed Google Visit Counter to use User Agent instead of IP-Address
- Fixed Bug in news_data.php
- Fixed Bug in Recent Downloads on Portal not displaying Licence File before Download
- Some cosmetic Bugs in portal_body.tpl fixed
- Removed <br> after Welcome Message in Welcome Box
- Added correct Images for Own Topics which are displayed now with a dot in the Folder Image(s)
- Added ShortURLs Mod from Larsneo (shows static .html Links for Forums and Topics / mod_rewrite required !)

I will put the version together sometime in the upcoming days so just check back.

So there will be no feature requests since the main reason for the changes are for PHP 5?

phpBB2 was made compatible with php 5 months ago. Whats taken so long to decide to release a "beta" version now? Has all the bugs been taken out of the release?

@richsong - hey if you think it sux, go elsewhere - I doubt anyone will mind Wink

Reason it takes so long - phpBB2 itself was made php5 compatible (with hacks only, mind you...). Plus is a version which contains many mods which interact with each other and they were mostly written for php3 & php4. Php5 does break certain things and thus it's a beta until it's proven to work properly.

Entirely your choice what you wanna run - but I know how much work goes into releasing something with this many mods and ensure it ACTUALLY works. I'd rather have a stable release and wait a few more days Wink

@richsong oh i mean oc5id. You have been banned here before and now once again because of your big mouth. Just stay on your own site and STFU here in our Forum. You are even to lame to hide your real identity. This time i will ban your complete Host with corresponding netmask, so you can come back with proxy only, and i will also catch you.

You steal the phpbb2plus code to rename it and release it with a different name and some changes. Then you come into our Board to tell people here your version roxx and phpBB2 Plus suxx ? You are even to lame to change the version you release so nobody can see that it is based on phpBB2 Plus. It is still visible. You really suck man.

Yes, Feature can be enabled in Plus Config. It is the same Mod as used here at phpbb2.de. Remember your Webserver MUST RUN Apache with mod_rewrite or it will not work !

When phpBB3 is released, will you be taking it and readding all of the current MODs for a future phpBB3 Plus 1.x release? If so, do you have an approx. timeline after the release of phpBB3?

Will we be able to fix the bugs in 1.52 if we dont use the beta?
